"بدأت أتأمل في الأمر، وكنت أظن أن الطالب سيأتي ليقتلني فحسب. ولكنني قلت حينها: "إذا جاء، فماذا ستفعلين يا ملالا؟" فأجبت نفسي: "يا ملالا، خذي حذاءً واضربيه به." ولكنني قلت بعد ذلك: "إذا ضربتِ طالبًا بحذائك، فلن يكون هناك فرق بينك وبينه. لا ينبغي أن تعاملي الآخرين بمثل هذه القسوة والغلظة؛ بل يجب أن تقاومي بالسلام والحوار والتعليم." ثم قلت: سأخبره بمدى أهمية التعليم، وأنني "أريد التعليم حتى لأطفالك أنت أيضًا." وسأقول له: "هذا ما أردت أن أقوله لك، فافعل الآن ما تشاء."
